Bio

I live and work in Eugene, Oregon.

Having studied at UC Santa Cruz, SF State and Cranbrook Academy of Art, I completed graduate degrees in printmaking, painting and theater design. I then served as Executive Director of The San Francisco Children’s Art Center. Upon moving to Oregon in 2000, I established a small multi-generational program; Art Soup. My philosophy encourages discovery and development of imagination and self-esteem.

After completing formal education, I developed a unique technique for producing my art. Images are drawn, carved then cast in hand - colored paper pulp. Reused materials are embedded to enhance dimensionality.  Painted details add a final unifying surface treatment. Images are playful and symbolic; serving a wide-ranging audience. The same image commissioned for a child’s room also hangs in a psychiatrist’s office.

My cast paper is licensed and published in a variety of forms, including book and album covers and greeting cards. Publishers include Brush Dance, Ministry Of The Arts and Lark Crafts. My picture book, “A Wish for Wings and Other Things,” 1995, intended for anyone of any age ever touched by illness received early attention, winning best of show and first prize in literary competitions.

I write poems, essays and stories, some illustrated.

My art is shown locally and nationally. Commissions include Temple Beth Israel, Eugene, Carpe Diem Pilates studio, Marin General Hospital (maternity ward), California Pacific Medical Center (healing center, pulmonary wing), Marin Dream Library, Shane Sammy, DDS, Jack Sherman DDS, Working Assets.
